USB Ports Quit Recognizing Certain Devices

Tue, 2010-05-11 00:11 by MC · Forum/category:

My Windows Xp Pro based system, SP-2, suddenly quit recognizing my USB external hard drive (Seagate) and my 12 in 1 card reader (SanDisk) My Palm Pilot and Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo were unaffected.

I can move the devices around to different USB ports but the result is still the same....the devices are not seen. I have reinstalled drivers, but no joy.

These devices work just fine on all my other workstations.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

USB device not recognized - migrate to Windows 7!

Same thing here - Windows XP SP-3 stopped recognizing my i8910 smartphone, and several other devices, I discovered later.
After that happened, the phone was also not recognized by other machines too, causing me to think the phone was faulty.
Then I found out that after a phone reboot, it was properly recognized by other machines, so the problem must be with my Windows installation.
Reinstalling all USB drivers etc did not help.
I did a complete reinstall of Windows XP, two times - the problem persisted! So it seemed the USB hardware was faulty.
I bought a new USB PCI card - still not recognized!

Then I bought and installed Windows 7 (with quite some troubles caused by old hardware) - and both my old and new USB ports recognize the phone!

It's an expensive and not always realistic solution, I admit.

I also found out the phone isn't recognized by my parents XP laptop too, which is only 3.5 years old and little tampered with.

USB Ports Not Recognizing External HD

I'm having the same problem, so any help would be appreciated. My Windows XP Pro SP-3's computer's internal hard drive is almost full, and it's not recognizing the external hard drive (Edge DiskGo 3.5 in my case). As with the above case, the Edge drive works fine on other computers, but not the one I need it to be recognized on. Any advice would be appreciated.
