DMA: Off

Sun, 2008-02-24 11:12 by admin

The log seems to indicate that DMA is off. Without DMA it will not work.

Since this is the most likely cause, read DMA reverts to PIO, apply the quick solution and try again. Check particularly whether all drives are running with DMA: On.

Some other possible causes are a defective drive, a loose or defective cable, corroded cable connectors (reseat them), and bad media.

By the way, all your hard disks appear to run in the slow, processor-consuming PIO mode also. Your computer is limping. The quick solution mentioned above will solve this problem momentarily as well, but it is likely that the computer has some underlying hardware problem that will make the defect reappear.
