Client will not connect wirelessly through Host to Internet

Wed, 2009-01-07 18:30 by rfpower · Forum/category:

Hi Guys

Some help would be much appreciated indeed........

The Setup:
Computer 1 - connected to modem/router via USB - no probs connecting to Internet.

Computer 2 - connected to modem/router via Ethernet - no probs connecting to internet.

Computer 3 - connected to Computer 2 via wireless card (same manufacturer wireless card in both C2 and C3).

Problem:

C2 is designated as the HOST
C3 is designated as a CLIENT

C2 connects to C3 and file sharing is working - but no matter what I try I cannot get C3 to get "through" (for lack of a better word) C2 and onto the internet.

Cannot See Shared Drive

Mon, 2008-11-24 14:13 by KSpector · Forum/category:

I have an external hard drive on a desktop computer on my home network I use for backups.
I used to have it set up as a mapped network drive on a laptop so I could backup the laptop to it. I had to disconnect it as a network drive and now cannot set it up again.
In View Workgroup Computers I can see the desktop computer, but cannot open it. Error says it not accessible.

When I go to try and map the drive as a network drive and browse to find it, I find the desktop but not the attached external drive.

Browser security

Fri, 2008-11-07 13:05 by macker7963 · Forum/category:

I’ve seen this question asked a few times, but don’t recall ever seeing a definite answer. Is it safe to leave your computer with the web browser open, or can hackers use this open browser to gain control over your computer while you’re not looking? Or does the fact that you have always-on broadband mean that they can get to your computer anytime it’s switched on? Is a computer in hibernation the same as a switched-on computer?

DNS servers for your web and mail server

Sat, 2008-10-11 18:56 by admin · Forum/category:

For the server on which this web site runs, I used the domain registrar's (GoDaddy in this case) DNS servers. However, this caused a few problems, so I looked for another solution.

  1. I couldn't convince GoDaddy's system to accept my own DNS server as the primary server. Since the Plesk-controlled DNS server on this web and mail server gets most data automatically from Plesk (domainkey entries, to give just one example), I really wanted this to be the primary DNS server.
  2. GoDaddy doesn't quite give me full control over the DNS entries. My own server is more flexible.

Unable to connect to internet using my xp through another xp machine.

Thu, 2008-10-02 10:40 by apjha · Forum/category:

Hi,
Any help will be appreciated. Here is my problem.

I have 2 windows xp pro system. 1 wireless router and a 4port switch.

I have these 2 xp system connected using the switch (over Ethernet) and 1 of the computer is connected to the wireless router (connected to the internet). I am unable to connect to the internet and take remote control of the system (which is not connected to the system) simultaneously.

If I disable the wireless port I get connected to the other system.

When I enable the lan and enable wireless, I get disconnected from Lan.

Dial up connection has suddenly stopped working

Sun, 2008-09-21 21:57 by bajroly · Forum/category:

Hi,
I used my laptop this afternoon when for some reason the internet stopped working. I have WIndows XP SP2 on my machine and a connection through a WAN miniport (PPPOE).

I tested the connection with the same cable and on an other machine and that was able to connect. So the problem is definitly within my laptop but I couldnt figure out what it is.

I switched off all the virus protection and firewall that might could block the connection, however nothing has changed. I re-installed the connection and checked & cleared the machine for spywares but that didnt help either.
