In attempt to salvage pc that couldn't boot, just installed XP Pro from purchased IBM CD (not from original equipment purchase, but from retail outlet) onto Dell Inspiron 6000. Dell drivers were downloaded from Dell support site and successfully installed on pc. An HP officeJet which is network attached has successfully mapped its SD card reader to the letter Z: (probably via registry) and the printer will print documents from the pc. The pc can successfully ping the other network attached devices.
IE 8 / Win XP Pro SP 3 - Cannot display webpage
We have an office network comprising the following:
Dell server running Win 2008 Server, providing DHCP and DNS
All internal comms are fine, and requests for websites in IE 8 are fine for 8 computers, but on 2 of them IE says "Cannot display web page"
I've check the firewall and everything's okay there, and anyway I figure the problem must be on the workstations because most of the PCs have no problems.
I just started working for a company that has 10 workstations, in a workgroup, all running WinXP Pro (not sure of the SP versions). No server. All are hard-wired. Everything was working just fine before I got there and up until today. One of the managers came to me and told me that the DSL had dropped connection, and they unplugged and then replugged the modem, the router, and the switch. Apparently, the DSL has problems dropping the connection, but this is beside the point.
I have three computers at home , one is connecting to lexmark printer - it works fine.
any attempts to print from the two others computers - is failed.
Thanks a lot .
Can anybody tell/show me how to optimize current internet configuration settings.
When I do start..run...\\dscomp\
it says "you might not have permission to use this network resource "
A problem I have seen once or twice, is a computer running win xp, and i've heard of it in win7 too, so maybe all NT. Where when a network share becomes unavailable. And you don't know and you save, then it freezes and takes a long time, before giving a message. I have seen this in notepad or ms word.
any ideas on the cause and how to solve it?
Home Network ran OK under XP. In the Windows 7 & XP) environment, the XP computers could see each other but the W7 PC could not connect to my workgroup.
