Email addresses in postings

Mon, 2014-05-19 09:10 by admin · Forum/category:

Never put real email addresses in web sites. The reason is that web email address harvesters will find them and use them to send spam to the address.

Here are two Javascript-based ways to obfuscate email addresses such that they remain clickable. In the Content Management System (CMS) Drupal, i.e. on this web site here, you have to change the input format to "Partly HTML" for any of the following methods to work. Only editors can do this. Non-editors have to resort to one of the simpler, but less elegant methods. Other CMS work differently, but the idea is the same.

Network Group not accessible

In attempt to salvage pc that couldn't boot, just installed XP Pro from purchased IBM CD (not from original equipment purchase, but from retail outlet) onto Dell Inspiron 6000. Dell drivers were downloaded from Dell support site and successfully installed on pc. An HP officeJet which is network attached has successfully mapped its SD card reader to the letter Z: (probably via registry) and the printer will print documents from the pc. The pc can successfully ping the other network attached devices.

IE 8 / Win XP Pro SP 3 - Cannot display webpage

IE 8 / Win XP Pro SP 3 - Cannot display webpage

We have an office network comprising the following:

Dell server running Win 2008 Server, providing DHCP and DNS
Broadband router
SonicWall TZ 150
Network switch
10 workstations running Win XP Pro SP3

All internal comms are fine, and requests for websites in IE 8 are fine for 8 computers, but on 2 of them IE says "Cannot display web page"

I've check the firewall and everything's okay there, and anyway I figure the problem must be on the workstations because most of the PCs have no problems.

Computer won't join Workgroup

Sat, 2011-02-19 16:01 by comp_guy_jmb · Forum/category:

Hello all!

I just started working for a company that has 10 workstations, in a workgroup, all running WinXP Pro (not sure of the SP versions). No server. All are hard-wired. Everything was working just fine before I got there and up until today. One of the managers came to me and told me that the DSL had dropped connection, and they unplugged and then replugged the modem, the router, and the switch. Apparently, the DSL has problems dropping the connection, but this is beside the point.

Sat, 2010-11-13 14:37 by Phillip · Forum/category:

When I do start..run...\\dscomp\
It gives me a prompt, I enter a user/pass which has always worked in the past.

it says "you might not have permission to use this network resource "
""Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed"

slow recovery when windows share unavailable

Wed, 2010-11-03 21:46 by Phillip · Forum/category:

A problem I have seen once or twice, is a computer running win xp, and i've heard of it in win7 too, so maybe all NT. Where when a network share becomes unavailable. And you don't know and you save, then it freezes and takes a long time, before giving a message. I have seen this in notepad or ms word.

any ideas on the cause and how to solve it?

Networking Windows XP & 7

Thu, 2010-10-14 23:48 by johnnys@bigpond... · Forum/category:

Home Network ran OK under XP. In the Windows 7 & XP) environment, the XP computers could see each other but the W7 PC could not connect to my workgroup.
Solution: Network Connection showed LAN properties for both notebooks:
Client Netware, Client MS Networks, Service Advertising Protocol, File & Printer Sharing , QoS Packet Scheduler
MS TCP/IP v.6, NW Link Access BIOS, NWLink IPX/SPX/Netbios CTP, IP (TCP/IP) ----obtain IP address & DNS automatically
After leaving ony Client MS Networks, File&Printer sharing, QoS Packet, TCP/IP, Rebooted and everything is there!
