Sat, 2010-02-20 20:49 by john4life · Forum/category:

I have 2 XP Pro sp3 computers on a Home LAN. Both can ping themselves but neither can ping the other. I have a high speed dsl connection to the internet through a hub. Both computers can see the internet. Avast and Zone Alarm on both machines. IE firewall OFF. Zone Alarm OFF on both computers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange SMTP server Jammed

Wed, 2009-10-21 17:17 by mydatavault · Forum/category:

We have come across an issue on our Exchange Server. (windows 2003 SBS - Exchange 2003)
the SMTP server has Thousands of connections, with tens of thousands of messages all to postmaster@domain.com, and some of the headers just have random chinese writing in them.

Here are the steps we have done already

Reciepient Filtering enabled on server and SMTP filter enabled
http://www.amset.info/exchange/filter-unknown.asp

Test: send an e-mail to a non exsistant user, and get an immediate bounce from my mail server stating it cannot send... so that is setup and is working.

New User account stops all internet/wi-fi connection

Tue, 2009-10-06 08:55 by markobrien · Forum/category:

When I try to create a new user account for my son, it disables all other users from wi-fi access to the home network (and the internet.)

I run XP (SP2) and I have administrator settings for my own account. I have one other (existing) user account for other son which continues to work fine.

But when I create a new user account it allows PC to connect wirelessly to home network for about 1 second then cuts it off. Then it automatically reconnects for 1 second and cuts connection again.
As soon as I log this new user off, network connection is restored for other users.

Can't browse network ,but can ping IPs

Wed, 2009-09-09 19:15 by janick31 · Forum/category:

XP Pro, SP 2

Symptoms:
Can't...
Browse or poll email from Internet,
PING URL's ("...could not find host..."
NSLOOKUP (can't resolve ISP's DNS server names)
(can't find ISP's DNS server IP's)
Can...
Be a working peer in local net (behind firewall)
PING IP's (anywhere!)

Already tried...
Resetting TCP/IP with: netsh in ip reset

Note...
Other machines geting thru firewall fine. Have tried
this machine on another network and it has the same
problems.

Interesting...
IPCONFIG /ALL: Mode is "Hybrid", not "Broadcast"

Wrong standard printer

Fri, 2009-08-14 13:39 by macker7963 · Forum/category:

I use the printer attached to my main pc, a HP Photosmart, for printing stuff from my laptop which is on a wireless network. The last time I tried to print stuff out, it didn't work. I went into the properties for the printer and ticked the box for sharing it, which had somehow become unticked.

64-bit XP Pro PC can't see 32-bit XP Pro PC

Sat, 2009-08-08 10:44 by abingdon3 · Forum/category:

I've recently built a new PC and installed the Win XP Pro 64-bit operating system. I have a 32-bit XP Pro PC that I want to use for backup. Both PCs can access the Internet through a Linksys WRT55AG broadband router.

The XP Pro 32-bit can see the XP Pro 64-bit box by means of a Windows Workgroup. However, the 64-bit PC can't see the 32-bit PC. The 64-bit PC uses a Kaspersky Firewall, while the 32-bit uses a McAfee firewall, but it doesn't seem to matter whether they are turned on or not. (The MS firewall is always off on both PCs.)

Have network, can see other PC's but no access! O.S Windows Vista Home Premium

I have for years successfully used a home LAN on a Belkin router. Now changed ISP (SKY broadband) and using their own Sagem F@ST router _ Terms & Conditions don't allow use of Belkin!!!
