ISA 2000 multiple instances issue

Fri, 2009-06-05 18:36 by iantheevil · Forum/category:

I had recently installed IE8 on a Windows 2003 SBS server which also runs ISA 2000. After noticing that our anti-virus software was no longer automatically updating I investigated and found that it was not able to connect to the update site properly through the automated process, but could using the manual update button.

Icons not working properly

Tue, 2009-05-19 11:33 by Brigham · Forum/category:

I thought I would let you know about a problem that suddenly occurred. I double clicked on an icon and the properties box came up. I tried right clicking the icon and the wrong one appeared. I thought I had a virus but I then remembered that some years ago I read somewhere that by rapid clicking the shift key, the control key, and then the delete key seperately it could clear faulty icons. While I was doing this a dialog box came up with something about "sticky keys" I didn't take too much notice of that as the fault had now gone.

Font too big for text boxes

Wed, 2009-04-01 02:55 by jonnymp · Forum/category:

I have an issue with text boxes within Windows XP. The font in all related applications now falls outside of the text boxes e.g. MS Outlook 2007, Options - all of the wording appears bolded and is to big for the text box. All of the text boxes in applications are also now shifted off-center to the right. Also, the appearance & spacing of the Start Menu items has been slightly modified.

I have had this once before and did stumble across a setting in a program which fixed it but cannot find now. IE & Firefox normal. DPI & appearance settings within Display properties unchanged.

W32Time

Sun, 2009-03-29 18:05 by burris · Forum/category:

I have 5 PCs all with XP Pro.

On one 1 PC the Windows 32 Time service keep reverting to stop.
When re-started, it remains on for a while and goes back to stop.

All the PCs have the same entries for that service and I have tried every trick to make the service remail on...to no avail..All the PCs have the time interval set to update every day.

Thanks in advance..

Update install loop

Tue, 2009-03-17 15:22 by Blueshark · Forum/category:

SP2 patch KB954430 (Security Update for XML Core Services 4.0) re-installs over and over. SP3 already installed.

I installed SP3 at least a year ago on my Windows XP Pro. Recently, I modified the system to ask to install updates instead of doing so automatically.

Since then, I get requests to install SP2 update KB954430 repetitively. I installed it at shut-down a few times anyway. Why would it need to be installed at all, if I have SP3 installed already?

Should I remove the patch manually?

Thanks for the help.

Start Menu folders missing?

Sat, 2009-03-07 03:49 by Mystic Fox · Forum/category:

I'm running Windows Vista and I recently noticed that a lot of my folders are missing from my Start menu, such as the Accessories folder and the Games folder. I think it's been like this for a long time so any sort of System Restore won't work. Is there another way to get these back? I checked the actual Start menu folders to see if they even exist and yes they're there. But for some reason they don't show up in the actual menu.

I've a problem that started recently. (after full restore and SP3 install) About 1/3 thru boot up it will hang, (freeze) and I have to use the on/off button to restart. Any suggestions? (besides dumping Billy Boy's Microshaft and going Mac) LOL
Thanks in advance

MVP Daniel Petri has written an excellent page on this question:

How can I add the Administrator's account to the Welcome Screen in Windows XP?

Thanks, Daniel!

Some additional information:

  • The Administrator logon is visible in Safe Mode.
  • You can also turn it on in Group Policies.
