I've a problem that started recently. (after full restore and SP3 install) About 1/3 thru boot up it will hang, (freeze) and I have to use the on/off button to restart. Any suggestions? (besides dumping Billy Boy's Microshaft and going Mac) LOL
Thanks in advance

Windows Vista Unstable

Wed, 2009-01-28 03:52 by Mystic Fox · Forum/category:

I really need help with my Vista. Lately, it has been quite buggy and annoying at times. Here are a few examples. I try moving a file from one folder to another, and the file transfer bar shows up and it never goes away. Same thing happens when I'm recycling a file. It pops up saying "Recycling 1 item" with the speed 0 bytes/sec. Here is something else that I find the most annoying. Usually if I were to run an installer or something, Vista would quickly open a security confirmation window and shadow out the rest of the screen.

I recently did a complete system recovery on a ei machine and this worked. I went to the windows XP udpate site and was advised to install Service pack 2 I did this and after reboot could only get a 640 by 480 display resolution with no possibility to change. I installed service pack 3 as suggested but still no change. My virus software will not install unless service pack 2 is installed. What do I do?

I have two folders in the same sub directory with the same name. How do you delete the extra folder?

Sat, 2008-12-27 18:04 by magerguilbert · Forum/category:

I have 2 " documents"(same name) folders located in the same sub-directory. They are both located in C:\Documents and Settings\[user-name]\ directory. The duplicate folder gets automatically updated with the same file names when i add files to the original folder. It looks like a pointer for the original folder When I attempt to delete the duplicate directory. I get the following error message.

Cannot delete My Documents : It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

wintask.exe ?

Wed, 2008-12-24 21:27 by ColinKrieg · Forum/category:

Hi HG!

I've searched google with no avail so I thought I might ask in here! I found several websites saying different things, but none of them seem to be credible websites.

I've recently purchased a new hard drive to replace my C Drive. Instead of backing everything up from my old C Drive, installing the newly purchased drive and then restoring everything, I simply put the old C drive the secondary position, and the new drive in the primary position. This way I can install a fresh copy of Windows and still move all of the old files over as I please.

Computer freezes at different %age progress of "checking file system on C"

Sat, 2008-12-13 11:55 by Philip · Forum/category:

I have a Tiny computer on which I loaded XP Professional a while ago. Ages ago it started to run the "checking file system on C" on start up occaisonally for no particular reason that I could see. Now it does it all of the time and freezes at random percentage progress levels. I can only run this computer by skipping the check. Now it is getting worse and the system occaisonally crashes to a blue screen and physical memory dump. Does anyone have any ideas?

Batch file to delete old files from FTP server

Fri, 2008-11-28 21:32 by crazy4offroad · Forum/category:

Hello everyone! :)
I recently set up a Windows-based home video surveillance system and have it working perfectly (so far). I have an option in the software to send images to a free remote FTP server, just in case the video server itself was ever stolen the last images to arrive at the FTP server may help identify the offender. However, with the video server constantly sending images to the FTP server, eventually the alloted 250MB of disk space quickly runs out and no new images can be received.
