Thanks in advance Uninstall Windows Search from XPWed, 2010-08-18 20:07 · Forum/category:I do not like Windows Search. I see no need to have that scanning/indexing workload. I prefer Search Companion - i.e. the "old" Explorer search. Since I have installed Windows Search, each time I click Search in Explorer I get the new Windows Search screen, from which I then need to click on Search Companion.
wuaudt.exe drive activity on Win XPWed, 2010-08-18 19:33 · Forum/category:I find that after each reboot of Win XP ( w/ all latest updates ), wuaudt.exe creates a lot of I/O to my C: ( Windows ) drive. I turned off Automatic Updates entirely to prevent this symptom, but to no avail. Does anyone know how to prevent wuaudt.exe from running so often, hopefully running only when I check for updates?
Java applet displays screen garbage where there should be textSat, 2010-08-14 23:32 · Forum/category:Windows 7 Ultimate - Japanese, with English language pack set to English. Java 6 update 21. I have an online brokerage account, and it displays Japanese perfectly, as does any Japanese Web page I load. I really don't have, and never have had, a problem displaying Japanese. But the brokerage account has a java applet that runs for its options and futures page (a separate page available after logging in). This applet displays rectangles (what is called mojibake in Japanese) where there should be Japanese text (numerals are okay). I have tried to troubleshoot this until I'm numb.

XP recovery console keeps rebooting to setup screenMon, 2010-06-07 23:22 · Forum/category:HELP!! I've got a corrupted system file on my existing XP desktop installation and I'm attempting to use the recovery console on the XP installation CD (definitely MS Windows and NOT an OEM version). After the setup screen appears, I press 'r' to start the recovery console and, after analysing my existing setup and loading files followed by a lengthy pause, it says that setup is starting Windows only to get the set-up screen again! Pressing 'r' again reboots my PC and the process is repeated! Am I doing something wrong? robotic/metallic soundTue, 2010-05-18 01:53 · Forum/category:Hi there, I am not sure under what Forum I should catagories that. Win XP pro SP2 only boots into last known goodThu, 2010-04-29 00:16 · Forum/category:I have a 5 year old Toshiba Satellite P35-S611 running windows XP SP2. Currently I can only get into windows when I select "last known good configuration". - I tried doing a restore - but it's never able to complete the restore(I'm sure it's because it doesn't boot into windows on it's own to complete the process) - I tried going into safe mode but it hangs for a while( about 10 minutes or so) and then reboots on it's own. Miscellaneous issues... Access denied when deleting folderFri, 2010-04-23 17:45 · Forum/category:Access denied when deleting folder and previous files from previous OS remained... I just wanna ask for help. I keep on formatting my pc because of virus issue then i noticed that the free space of my disk are getting smaller. Maybe its because of the stored files from my previous OS.. Is there any way to solve this problem? when i try to open the folders of my latter account it shows "ACCESS DENIED"...I could tell that its still there because when i ran system scan with an antivirus it shows the files stored in my previous account.
