Problem with Service Pack 2 installationHello, I have a 2003 HP Pavilion 555y desktop that I just reformatted using the restore CD's. Everything went just fine. I've done this before without any problems a couple of years ago by the way. Anyway, updates tell me to download and install Service Pack 2, which I do. Takes a while to install as usual, then tells me to restart the computer. I restart. This is when the problem starts. It just stalls where it says 'Please Wait.....'. Computer wont move off this part. Waited half an hour, then held in the start button to restart computer. Computer seems to restart, its at the Windows page, then where it should go to the welcome screen, it doesnt. It just has a blank screen. Nothing happens. Reformatted again using restore CD's. Same thing happens. Ran a chkdsk, and there are no problems. Last time I reformatted this computer everything went fine, even the Service Pack 2 installation. Someone PLEASEEEEEEEEE help me as this is driving me nuts!!! LOL. What do I have to do to get it to install properly. I went to the microsoft site for help...NOT paying $59 for it. Can't afford it either lol. I need instructions to fix this problem please someone? :( I'm waiting for someone to respond so I can get this computer back up and running for my kids...please help me :( |

Should be SP3

I'm surprised that the automatic update wants to install Service Pack 2. The current service pack is 3. Try that one manually.
If it doesn't install, read the SP2/SP3 Problem Solver page, then ask HP.
