When I try to log into my computer on windowsXP, I enter my password it starts to log in, then it says saving your settings and logs off. No matter how many times I try it will not let any the users log into their accounts. Can you help me on what would cause this.

Thank You

Click on the "Start" button in the top left and read the general problem solving methods. One of them is to power down, remove all external devices, then power up again.

The suspicion here is that the drive letters got shifted around. Unfortunately there are other possible causes, so a thorough diagnosis is difficult without much more information. If the above does not help, try hard to remember what was done to the computer before the problem appeared.

I had a similar issue some time back. The file userinit.exe is missing in myprofile. I did:

Boot using winxp cd.
Enter recovery console.
at the command prompt

copy the userinit.exe file from cd to c:\windows\system32 and then reboot the server.

Reason for the issue in my case was : anti malware s/w removed this file

Interesting report

Thanks for reporting this. I get the impression, also from own experience, that some anti-malware programs create more problems than they solve.
