I have two folders in the same sub directory with the same name. How do you delete the extra folder?

I have 2 " documents"(same name) folders located in the same sub-directory. They are both located in C:\Documents and Settings\[user-name]\ directory. The duplicate folder gets automatically updated with the same file names when i add files to the original folder. It looks like a pointer for the original folder When I attempt to delete the duplicate directory. I get the following error message.

Cannot delete My Documents : It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

I deleted all the files in the directory, restarted the computer and attempted to delete the now empty folder and I get the same error message. Can you help me to delete that duplicate folder.

I am not able to rename the duplicate folder.. If i try to rename it, the original folder gets renamed.. But not the duplicate one. Also the duplicate folder becomes empty(since it works a pointer to the orginal folder, when the original gets renamed duplicate becomes empty)

Cannot delete file or folder

Please report back what worked and, if you find out the precise cause, please report that too. Having two identically named folders side by side is a bit peculiar. I'd be curious to learn what it was.

My first guess is that the problem is related to the special "My documents" folder that can be shown under a different name.
