Hi,
I used my laptop this afternoon when for some reason the internet stopped working. I have WIndows XP SP2 on my machine and a connection through a WAN miniport (PPPOE).
I tested the connection with the same cable and on an other machine and that was able to connect. So the problem is definitly within my laptop but I couldnt figure out what it is.
I switched off all the virus protection and firewall that might could block the connection, however nothing has changed. I re-installed the connection and checked & cleared the machine for spywares but that didnt help either.
I tried to find solution on different forum but it seem quiet uniqe therefore I post this topic and hope that you guys will be able to help.
Regards

Connecting your computer to the Internet without an active firewall is like unprotected sex with strangersyou may die. The average infection time on an unprotected Internet connection is below 60 seconds.
I would recommend to use a router, which provides some fair protection and also enables you to connect two or more computers to the Internet and with one another.
That said, you should still be able to connect directly, but there are a thousand possible reasons why it fails. Your best bet is the Network Problem Solver, where you should fill in the form (using Internet Explorer) and then work your way carefully through the resulting advice.
