No secondary IDE channel visible

Hi guys,
I have Dell dimension desktop with windows XP Home edition SP3 installed. I have one DVD-RW drive with ROXIO-My DVD LE. Recently, when I opened My DVD LE, I got the message that DMA is turned off and it should be turned on.I opened ' Device Manager-IDE ATA/ ATAPI controllers, I observed that no secondary IDE channel is displayed only primary
IDE channel is there.Till recently, I,m sure, Secondary IDE channel was also there.

My question is:-
Is it normal to have only primary TDE channel and no secondary IDE channel?

How it is going to effect the DVD-RW drive performance reg. read and burn function?

I have tried system restore but to no avail. How can I revert back to secondaty IDE channel.

Thnx

PS:With the help of a article published in this site, i have been able to solve the problem
" DMA reverts to PIO". Please accept my profound gratitude

Call Dell support

One of the advantages of buying Dell is that they have a fairly good support system in place. I could try to answer your questions, but a Dell supporter can do that much better and more authoritatively. They fix most problems right on the phone.

Apropos your reply reg. captioned querry, I thank you very much and with all the due regards concerning your sentiments regarding 'Dell Support System' I wish to inform that I am already covered under Dell Warranty and Support which is good for another 310 days.I have been writing to them, time and again, through their web site which is duly acknowledged by their system bot not once they have reverted back to me.I feel utterly disappointed, and have no intention to contact them again.

My past experience has been that they are hardly able to solve any problem and in most cases ask to reinstall the OS.

Is there a secondary IDE channel?

The next question is whether there is actually a secondary IDE channel in the computer. You may have to open it and look.

Normally it is better to have the hard disk connected as master to the primary channel and the DVD drive as master to the secondary channel.
