The server admin leak

This is something nobody likes to talk about, but we should all be aware of this particular administrator risk.

Regardless how safe companies and governments make their computer systems, there is always one leak that can never be entirely closed—the Server Admin Leak. A server administrator practically always has sufficient technical knowledge and access rights to look at confidential information, to steal, abuse, or sell it or to cause some other problem like mutilating or deleting data or locking out the rightful operators.

Most server administrators are honest, reliable, and responsible people, but there are certainly some crooks and even paid spies among them.

This is one reason to keep a good look at databases containing personal information, particularly in governments and large companies dealing directly with the public, like the health sector, insurances, etc.

The only certain way to make sure nobody can abuse your personal information is not to let them have it in the first place.
