When I click on a desktop icon sometimes the dial up box comes up and has to be clicked on to connect even 'though I am already connected by broadband. Any thoughts?
I have seen some cases in which the problem occasionally reoccurred. I have no solution for that, other than changing the setting back again, and suspect that some third-party software changes the setting. But with a little luck you won't experience it.
Does this happen with all icons or only particular ones?
One possible cause is a wrong setting in Internet Options, Connections (in Control Panel or Internet Explorer, Tools). If the dialling is always automatic and you're always connected, you should select the setting to never dial.
Have a look also at the LAN settings. Disable all automatic configuration options. They are only useful if you have a network administrator who has set up auto-configurations scripts for you.
If this doesn't solve the problem, please give more information about your installation. Have a look at How to ask in a forum or newsgroup.
