Insert the dj_sf_software disk and click OK. Insert the dj_sf_software disk and click OK.

If I give ok, then I get the following error:

I didn't have the original software discs so this worked much better for me:

Download and run the Windows Installer Clean Up utility:

Shows things you won't see in msconfig. It will specifically show you the dj_sf_software installation and allow you to remove it.

I've just tried the solution to this irritating problem as suggested by GIRAFFE7699 and it works a treat.
In fact when the window with insert CD came up all I did was put my HP printer installation disc in and then clicked OK.
Problem solved. Thanks GIRAFFE7699

Thanks for the confirmation

Sounds as if we have a reliable and simple solution to this particular problem.

Any idea why it occurs in the first place, anyone?

I had this same problem. I found out it was due to a missing "something" (ie. driver, setup, ect.) from my HP deskjet printer. All I had to do was insert the disk to the priner, browse, and select the dj_sf_software file from the setup folder on the disk and wa-la, problem fixed. Hope this help you and the next poor soul.

I just ran across this same problem ... very frustrating ... I had just tried to "repair" my Win XP home from disc (Dell product)... re-tried and dj_sf_ software error still pops up. Restoring to a point prior to the XP reload doesn't seem a good solution for me. My PC is several years old ... the load disc comes with sp1 but not sp2 (sp2 not yet loaded).

Tricky situation

My problem is that I don't understand the grammatics of the first sentence at the very top: "My problem is that every time an application tries to start Windows installed ..." Thus I don't know what is really happening. spa, if you read this, perhaps you can edit your first message and make it understandable.

You could try to do a System Restore, followed by another repair installation.

The alternative is to find the offending software remains and delete them, but this requires surgery.

Assuming that a leftover dj_sf_software process is still running and causing this problem, preventing that process from starting would solve it. Try to identify it first, by looking at all running tasks in Task Manager or, if that's not good enough, in Process Explorer from Sysinternals.

Once you've identified the offending process and killed it for a test, you can try to prevent it from starting in the first place. A list of autorun causes can be found here.

Could be something else though. Good luck!

System Restore

The first thing I would try is System Restore. Reset the system to a point in time before you tried to install the DJ-SF software.

Note also that you can use System Restore in Safe Mode, if Windows will not work in normal mode any more. Good luck!
