Started my xp computer the other day and had side on the left of my screen that has Folder tasks, Other Places, and Details with drop down arrows on each one. How do I get rid of this stupid thing?
From your description I cannot recognize it. But then I avoid these things like the plague.
One thing that keeps being pushed by all kinds of installers is the Google Toolbar. I keep having to click it off when I install something else, like a new Java version.
Anyway, your unwanted toolbar is certainly easy to disable, once we've found out what it is. Perhaps it offers some explanation of its own reason for being. Try to right-click it.
If all else fails, you could read the Autorun causes article and check the registry places for the starting code.
I don't think it's spyware. It's more likely some toolbar that got installed along with some other software. What did you install recently?
You could look through your list of software through Control panel, Add/remove software, and see whether anything shows up there that you may want to uninstall.
Does anyone know this side bar?

Would adware or spybot scanner take this thing out?
I doubt it.

But I can't be sure.
